What do you mean when you say they are way over priced? Do you think
that they charge more than they're worth? Do you think they charge
more for a product that's comparable to the mass market lines? It's my
understanding that you actually do get a far superior product from
Crystal (and Regent, and Silversea, and Seabourn) than you do from the
mass market lines like HAL, Princess, Celebrity, etc. Food quality is
higher, staff-to-passenger ratio is smaller, service and
accommodations are at a higher level than on mass market lines. From
where I'm sitting, having never experienced Crystal, I find it hard
to judge their product as being over priced. Expensive? Yes. Over
priced? Depends on whether you feel you're getting value out of the
experience. You can eat dinner at Applebees for $20 - many people do,
and are quite pleased with the experience. Or you could easily spend
$100 or more on a meal (per person). Is the $100 meal overpriced?
Who's to say. I've had great $5.00 meals, and I've had great very,
very, very expensive meals. In both cases, I've felt that the meals
were worth every penny. Sometimes, you actually do get what you pay
for...it all depends on whether or not you feel that the "what you
get" is worth the added expense.

To the OP, I totally enjoyed my one and only Princess cruise. They did
a great job. I hesitate to call anything the "best of the best", but
they have a reputation for putting out a consistently good cruise.
And, as you've discovered from some of the other posts, what's best is
so totally subjective. There are so many different aspects to a
cruise...service, cleanliness, food, entertainment, decor, comfort.
Some lines excel at one thing, maybe don't do the best job at
another. And, every passenger has different tastes, likes and
dislikes. Even on the same ship, same exact cruise, you'll get varying
opinions from everyone. So, keep your expectations in check, don't
sweat the small stuff, and enjoy Princess. Everyone's gotta start
somewhere...and Princess is a good place to launch your cruising
adventures.
