It's what's called a "growler". They sink a couple of ships a year.
Real bad news for the "around the world" racers. Single hander hit
one last year, three years ago (four?) two ships hit some during the
Volvo. No sinkings, no injuries, but when a $50M sailboat hits
something like that, lots of people get pissed.

They are invisible, no radar signature, usually a medium to dark blue
color. South of 55, it's a crap shoot.
