I agree with Bud in that a quality surge protector
is a good investment on any electronic device.
Most newer laptops come with a power supply that
can use virtually all voltages and frequencies
found in homes; check the label. However, do not
try to use the bathroom plug that says "electric
razor" on a ship for anything but an electric
razor, and be very careful if your razor is a
battery operated unit. Charge those at the wall
plug near the desk / dressing table. Even a night
light will "die" and early death in those bathroom
outlets.
The clamping protectors designed for 110V - 120 V
when plugged into a simple plug converter (240 V
to 120 V non-transformer type) may cause a problem
in that these "converters" actually produce a
pulsating DC voltage that only approximates a
normal AC voltage. That is why those converters
should only be used with heaters and "universal"
motors; these are very tolerant of the voltages
and forms of the power supplied.
I personally prefer to use a "Squid" that has a
surge protector built into it, and a number of
outlets on short cords. Easy to pack, and it makes
that single outlet near the desk serve many uses.
Have a great cruise,
