Holland America - Upholstery Posted on: Sat, 29 Dec 2007 17:33:17 +0000 (UTC)

Hi,
I know - Odd topic title.

We recently came back from our 1st Holland America cruise, it was the
Westerdam.

My question has to do with what * I * thought was the unbelievable
preponderance of leather used on nearly all the upholstered
furniture. I personally don't care for leather, finding it generally
too hot and uncomfortable.

On the Westerdam it seemed leather was everywhere.

Main dining room
Main show lounge
Culinary art center / theater
Atrium martini bar
Sports bar
Atrium bar (forget the name) had some non-leather on the smoking side,
all leather on the other.
Internet terminal seating was all leather
Well over half the top deck observation bar / library seating

Basically if I wanted to curl up somewhere quiet and read a book, do a
crossword etc. there was almost nowhere I could escape the d*mned
leather.

On our initial 'ship walk around' after embarking I was amazed /
appalled.

I know leather is considered luxurious, etc. etc. but really.

Is this common on HAL ships? Or is it a Westerdam only thing. If
common for HAL, then they've lost us for sure, especially since we
weren't to happy with many other aspects of HAL's service.
