Hi again,
Thanks for all the various comments.
First off, I understand the practicality and appearance of leather so
I can understand why it would be used.
But, and I'm not sure how to put this politely, but I find leather /
vinyl type upholstery far too hot for me and I get sweaty and sticky
-- most uncomfortable. And don't tell me about leather's
'breathability', I'm suffering at home with a leather recliner since
the better half wanted my chair to match hers, and she's not ready to
consider dumping my new leather chair when it's less than a year old.
We were on an Atlantic crossing so we had a lot of sea days. This
isn't a problem per se since we've done at least 7-8 crossings on
various ships. But I've never felt so restricted as to choices for a
curl-up spot as we were on the Westerdam.
Evenings were worse, a typical evening on the ship became an hour and
a half in the dining room on leather followed by a walk to the show
lounge for another probably hour and a half on leather followed by a
trip to the martini bar or casino for ... you get the idea.
I'm not a novice cruiser, and have been on all kinds of ships / cruise
lines - Celebrity, Princess, RCCL, Windstar, Seabourne and NEVER
encountered this kind of overwhelming bias to leather.
I was trying to determine if this is a typical HAL style, and if so I
will simply avoid them in the future. Not that their service would
encourage me to go back either, even long time HAL clients at our
table were making nasty noises about the deterioration in service from
past experience.
