There are many ways you can help your local Animal Rescue Shelter. Some
towns still have "kill" shelters where the animals have a week to be
adopted or they are euthanized. This is for folks who like a challenge
and are good at organizing things. Where there are only "kill" shelters
start one up as a haven for those who weren't adopted. Shelters need
dog walkers, people to socialize and play with animals, answer phones,
do paper work, transport animals to their new home and most of all
foster a dog or cat. I am a dog walker at my local rescue shelter. It's
amazing how much you get back from a dog when you give him a little of
your time. The next time you see them they are really happy to see you.
That's something you can do even if you can't have a dog at home. I get
a good feeling working with a withdrawn dog who was a victim of abuse.
When they finally come out of their shell and start to act like a
regular dog it's just fantastic. Donate what you can afford, yes. It
helps pay the bills. Give of your time if you can. You'll be glad you did.
