To me to enjoy Rome it is best to stay at an Italian hotel rather than
one catering to tourists ... We stayed at an non-descript Hotel near
the Vatican called the Hotel Emmaus ...very easy walk to the
Vatican ... nothing special with amenities ... clean and comfortable
though ... very Italian ... and free nightly shows of a group of old
Italian men arguing about who knows what in the gelateria
downstairs ... or children kicking a soccer ball down a side
street ... or shoppers picking up fresh ingredients at the local
store ...
