Well, TSA sure found something of value. I arrived in Sydney to find
my bag with my colored zip tie removed. I reported it to the nice
customs man, who asked me if I would like to open it. We did, and
found a nice note on top saying that the bag had been searched by the
TSA. Oz customs guy says "okay" and I'm gone. The pajamas I packed
on the top of the bag so I wouldn't have to unpack at 9pm after a 14
hour flight were in the middle. And bottom. When we got to Adelaide
five days later, I discovered that one sandal was missing. When I got
back to Austin, I reported it. Was told I should have reported it
when I first arrived. I told them that I was in Australia. Might as
well have said I was in the globular cluster M696. They had no
concept of what to do and eventually a senior supervisor said "sorry".

We zip tie our suitcases with a colored tie, all the same color. Every
bag has a pair of wire cutters in an outside pocket, along with spare
ties, in a different color.

When I fly with my guns, I am definitely paranoid. The long guns are
in their own cases and well locked. But the handgun(s) are in the
suitcase, each locked in a hard case. But a quick grab and it's gone.
