I agree with you Rosalie. Sometimes I think people can inadvertently
turn a tip into an insult. Money can be waved around at crew but if
they are being treated with disrespect it can backfire.

NOT saying this is the case with the OP of this thread. Nor should
anyone assume I'm a stingy tipper having said the above (you'd be
wrong). But I have observed obnoxious people who think that "money
talks" without realizing they've just publicly humiliated the
recipient of the tip.
