We were "upgraded" without my knowledge on a cruise out of
Seattle. . . right out of the handicapped cabin I'd reserved to
one about half the size that Mrs. Nonny's scooter wouldn't even
fit inside. The purser was adamant that I'd not reserved the
handicapped cabin and I confess to not reviewing the paperwork
against the onboard reservations I'd made. They had been simply
for a handicapped balcony cabin and no specific cabin had been
assigned. After 3-4 visits to the Purser's desk, I was in a bad
mood, shall we say, and the Purser offered to put me ashore if we
were so upset.
I finally located the actual photocopy of the reservation I'd made
on the ship and returned for a final go-round. It clearly said:
Wheelchair, Handicapped in a handwritten note. That did it- I had
PROOF of their mix-up. They asked us to wait in our cabin and
contacted the people in the 4 or 6 handicapped cabins aboard the
ship to see if they would switch with us. They offered them a
$100 onboard credit and our "upgrade" cabin.
The most irritating thing was that the couple who took them up on
the offer were in their late 20's to early 30's and in seemingly
perfect health. The gal giggled to Mrs. Nonny when we made the
switch that they'd been advised by friends to always request a
handicapped cabin, since it was bigger.
