Interesting....is the cruiseline industry hurting like the airlines?
In some places they're not getting the pricing they were hoping for. One
area where ships are being pulled out of is Europe. IIRC Carnival pulled a
ship out that was supposed to be there next year. Others may have as well.
The problems there are probably a combination of effects, such as high
airfare, weak dollar, and over saturation with too many ships.
West coast Mexico (sailing from California) has never been an itinerary that
has drawn a lot of interest, or generated high pricing. While the Caribbean
has over a hundred of ships in the Winter, west coast Mexico has only a
handful.
Other areas, such as departures from NYC in the summer seem to be generating
high prices for the cruise lines. People from the NYC area don't need air
for sailings from NYC, so the cruise lines are charging higher cruise
prices. But they can't seem to get higher prices for California sailing,
even though people there don't need to pay for airfare.
