I have been hanging about in Fodor's, and find more stuff there to
engage me. But I don't like it nearly as much as I like what this
group used to be. It is moderated, but retrospectively, in that if the
moderator doesn't approve of a post it is deleted. I find it quite
annoying to have posts deleted (it's happened to me a couple of times)
especially in a forum which is American in character, and where there
seems to be a failure to understand irony. There seems to be a wish
that all jests, ironic or otherwise, be flagged with "just kidding",
and I will never sink that low.

I signed on to Thorn Tree, but the user interface puts me off, and I
have not spent much time there.

It would be good to find a new venue, but it's not only to avoid spam.
I would like one that people interested in travel in Europe can find,
and where they might be encouraged to stay around. In this group there
has long been a phenomenon of people finding it, asking for help with
a trip, and disappearing -- often without even saying thank you. But a
proportion of those who sought and got help stayed active, keeping the
group lively and enjoyable.

Ah! The good old days!
