119 Euros is the maximum 2nd class fare for any distance within
Germany, even Basel Bad Bf to Ostseebad Binz on Rügen, which is
probably the longest trip one can make. Munich - Hamburg is already in
this range, 119 EUR.

This corresponds to about 87 GBP at 1.36784 EUR/GBP (today's rate at
www.xe.com).

A return is not cheaper as two singles, unless one uses any of the
"Sparpreis" (saver) options with 25% or 50% reduction, but those are
then only valid on the connection booked, and no other train (except
local trains). A 50% saver requires a weekend (actually a night
between saturday and sunday) between the two legs of the journey.

And then there are discounts available with Railcards (25% and 50%)
for one-way trips or those made at short notice, without being bound
to a specific train.
