Doesn't that somewhat depend upon where the tap is located?
I have never hisitated to drink tapwater in Austria,
France or Belgium. (I think most of the hotels and
restaurants in Vienna serve pitchers of tapwater unless you
specifically order mineral water, but I was told they pipe
it in from artesian springs in the Alps.) I certainly would
not hesitate to drink tapwater in any of the Scandinavian
countries, although I've been told it can be a bit more
chancy in Russia.
