That kind of sideways thing is how airliners tend to approach
crosswinds - it happened to me in a *goddamn scary* but utterly safe
PanAm landing at Miami in 1990. There's a vaguely similar TAP landing
in the Azores from a few years ago that is an absolute frightener,
except they chose to land (I'm sure, correctly) rather than go around.
