Both lie somewhere in the middle of England between London and Scotland.
But why would it matter to know the precise geographic location?

For all practical purposes, unless you are planning to travel there (and
then you look up its location in a map and enquire about how to get
there and how long it takes), it's sufficient to know that both cities
lie north of London.

It's the same as asking whether Helsinki is north of Stockholm or
whether Shanghai is north of Chongqing. Unless you are planning to visit
those places you don't need this information.
