Geez, that's a bummer. RTE probably hasn't had enough of the likes of
you.

scRunge and Markku are both useless pieces of shit, and should be
either responded to with utmost hostility, or killfiled.

I think Lonely Planet's on-line Thorn Tree forum has been mentioned.
It's utterly bereft of the kind of crap that has come to turn RTE
into yet another piece of the Usenet cesspool. The death of Usenet
has been predicted for a while, and the on-line forums, which are
far better at filtering spam and terminating useless idiots, are
probably doing their bit to drive a stake into the newsgroups' barely
beating heart.

Also the forum section in http://www.virtualtourist.com/ is very good.

It strikes me that the main reason for the demise of RTE is this:-
All the off-topic crap (from the likes scRunge and Markku) on RTE made it a
very busy NG in terms of traffic.
This in turn led the spammers to target it with all their junk.
There are still plenty of NGs about which are relatively "pollution free" -
so don't write Usenet off completely yet.
