Unfortunately, I think usenet will continue to suffer from a lack of new
customers. Many of us "older" folks started on usenet when it was a
fascinating part of a new and promising Internet, even pre-www. Today's
computer users have no reason to find it.

Case in point: my 20-year-old nephew recently asked me to how usenet works.
He's a sophomore in college, one of those kids who grew up surgically
attached to a keyboard. :-) Between Facebook, chat sessions and IM, they
live and breathe on the Web. Usenet is one of those ancient protocols their
parents' generation used ;-)
