Not at all.

The UK is expensive, and London is the most expensive city in the UK!
From your ISP, I'm assuming you're from the US? Meals will seem
expensive to you- but you can get good deals if you look around. If you
eat 'pre-theatre' or even 'post-theatre' there are often specials. Most
of the main museums are free however, so if you like that kind of thing,
it won't set you back too much. You're staying very centrally, so
consider walking. You'll be surprised how much ground you can cover on
foot in London, and I think it's the best way to get a feel for the
centre. If you are going to use London Transport, get an Oyster card, as
that will make things cheaper especially for single trips.

If you're not drinking much, you'll definitely find meals from £10-15,
especially in Chinatown (which is close to where you are.) If you need
to keep on a budget, then for lunch, you might consider takeaway
sandwiches etc.

Personally, Stratford wouldn't be my choice for a daytrip, but that
varies. There are certainly lots of options. I'd Consider Oxford or
Cambridge instead. Even York is a very easy daytrip as it's on a fast
train line. (Book in advance for possibly cheaper tickets.)
