It's still good to know the options. I just checked, booking 14 May.
(midweek is often the cheapest time.)

Leaving at 0730, returning 1935. Cost is £22.50. That's almost a quarter
of the saver ticket.

Of course, it's all up to the OP, but I've taken that line very
recently, and been impressed with the service. (It's now National
Express East Coast.) Free wifi too! :)

And FWIW, Stratford upon Avon is a similar journey time, with a similar
price for advance purchase tickets (though a saver is quite a bit
cheaper than York.)
