European cities have been around a lot longer than US cities and many
have ancient, narrow roads that would be difficult to maneuver for
even mid-range cars. For example Utrecht's city center has many one
way streets that were built for cart and foot traffic in the 11th -
12th centuries. Spain, Germany, France, Italy all have similar
situations.

Of course, you could do as I did and park your car on the outskirts of
downtown and walk the rest of the way. Cheaper that way too although I
think parking meter fees have gone way up since I was parking
regularly near the Maliebaan in Utrecht.

I realize you ssid you had a group of people to haul around, but go
for the smallest vehicle you can comfortably get your group into. It
will save you trouble and remember gas over there is about 10 bucks a
US gallon now.
