First of all, what I wonder is why you, Michael Newport, are posting under a
Dutch sounding name?
Second, my husband is a retired 30 year military man.
Third, during his service in 1967 & 1968 in Viet Nam, he was exposed to
Agent Orange and has received excellent care from the US Government. Since
he was diagnosed while on active duty, he was taken care of at Brooke Army
Medical Center and continues to have follow ups there every six months and
sometimes more often when warranted. He is completely cured and lives a
full life today. The follow ups are to make sure that he remains cancer
free...There are slackers who like to exploit their problems by saying they
cannot work (they would try to get away with that even if they weren't
affected by Agent Orange or any other disability. ) There are those who are
greedy and exploit and exaggerate their problems for money...by writing and
constantly complaining...And yes, there are those who have sadly fallen
between the cracks somehow and have not gotten the care they should have,
but it is not because it is not there for them; they just have to go out
there and find out whom to contact. Any VA or Retired Military Services
Office would gladly point them the right way...We are fortunate as we live
near BAMC and stay informed as to what benefits are due to those who need
them. I am a registered nurse and would be the first on the bandwagon to
protest poor medical care. So don't paint the whole US Government as not
caring or believe the "waiting for us to die" drivel. My husband is 78 and
going strong. We travel and enjoy life to the fullest because of the
excellent health care he has received.
