Could be reason to know that what's required is not any ID card but a NID,
National Identity Card indicating citizenship.
The airlines TIMATIC IATA information confirms that you may travel between
UK and other EU countries on a national identity card

However I tried the best to show a NID last time I travelled Sweden-UK from
Västerås but Ryanair strictly required me to show a passport for
travelling
