Italy rail pass or round-trip tickets? Posted on: Tue, 27 May 2008 19:31:18 +0000 (UTC)

Okay, I'm cluesless about this. Is there no such thing as a roundtrip
on European rail? I'm planning roundtrips from Rome to Pompeii and
Rome to Assisi in August but cannot reserve these trains until 2
months prior. Since I also plan a one-way from Venice to Florence and
a one-way from Florence to Rome (via Pisa), I'm wondering if my best
bet would be a "4 days in 2 months" Italy rail pass. This all depends
on whether I have to buy 7 train tickets or 4. If it's just four,
then the rail pass would not be less expensive but very likely cheaper
if 7 train trips are involved. On the Florence to Rome leg, would I
have to buy separate tickets from Florence to Pisa and then Pisa to
Rome? Can anybody shed any light on all of this? Thanks a bunch.
