Actually, Joe Colombe (sp?) sold his interest to a larger company quite
a few years ago. Part of the deal was that he would continue at the
helm for x number of years, but that time has long expired. (In fact, I
seem to remember he died.) He and his wife were very generous patrons
of Los Angeles Opera, so I attended a couple of fund-raiser teas in
their home.

I'm not familiar with them - are they in the U.S.?

I've only visited Sainsbury's once (when I was staying with a friend in
London), but I have to agree they offer a far more cosmopolitan choice
of merchandise than most U.S. supermarkets!
