Car rentals are very expensive. FWIW, I was on a trip to Denmark in 1999
and the plan was to do attend to some family business and do some
sightseeing in in Denmark and end up in Paris. We priced car rentals
from various cities in Europe and ending up in Paris. To rent a small
Mercedes in Hamburg it was $1,000 (Cdn), from Paris it was $1,800,
Amsterdam $2400, from Copenhagen $3,600.
One my next trip, we rented a car in Hamburg and took the ferry across
to Denmark. We had booked a room at a hotel near the train station that
was supposed to have parking. They did not. They had "access to
parking". You could park on the street for free overnight until 7
am..... if you could find a space. We could not. There was a parking
tower several blocks away and to park from 11 pm until 9 am cost me $45.
When I was in Denmark in June of this year, I rented a small Peugot for
a day to go down to Svine, up to Roskilde, Jyllinge and back to
Copenhagen. The rental cost was about $130, plus $45 for fuel and
another $i6 for overnight parking (metered) in the street behind the
rental office. SO in addition to the high cost of rental, you have the
high cost of fuel and expensive parking.... if you can find it. |
