BTW, I remember as a child in Berwick on Tweed taking newspapers to
the chip shop and getting a free helping of chips. At the time, I had
no idea how poor we were and, although my late parents would disagree,
I would not have traded any of my experiences for all of the money in
the world. In the course of my first 9 years of life, before we
sailed for America, we lived in West Hartlepool, Braidwood (in
Lanarkshire), Berwick on Tweed and Blackburn. Other than Berwick,
none of those places would place highly on the must see list and yet I
cherish every memory I have of every one of those cities/towns/
villages. |
