I was there 30 yrs ago, and still keep remembering it. There were four
of us driving around Bavaria, but for the Oberammergau event we left our
car at the hotel we were staying an hour or so away and did the rest by
train. The small village was crowded but well organised. We had our
tickets mailed beforehand. The trains were crowded as well, but they had
extra runs and longer than usual trains. According to http://www.db.de
trains still go there. I can't remember where we ordered the tickets
from, but http://www.passionplay-oberammergau.com/ seems to be in the
business and worth studying. Advance booking is a must.
In Germany it is not a buge deal if your are protestant or catholic.
It's not northern Ireland not to speak of Mecca and Medina, where strict
rules apply. The bavarian is a least to say challenging form of german,
but english is understood. The event itself is in biblical language, so
even Germans have a hard time to understgand. English and a few phrases
in german will make your trip fabulous. |
