My wife and I are thinking of returning to Ireland late spring 07. She
doesn't like to drive abroad and I will be 75 but we still want to
drive ourselves for maybe 3 weeks, picking up and returning probably
in Shannon.
I have driven in Ireland, Jamaica, UK, Australia since the early 60s.
I am in vigorous health for my , age and wear glasses only for reading
small print.
Since we are urban averse we will not be driving in or around Dublin or
Cork but primarily around the countryside primarily in the west and
southeast and rarely if ever at night.
I had read some time ago that car rental companies in Ireland would not
rent to over 70's for a while and then 75 and over I checked a couple
of web sites and now they only state the minimum age of 25.
What's the deal now and what are the alternatives like separate
insurance, leases, purchase and buy backs etc. Any input would be
appreciated. Thanks
