A new German law requires vehicles to be "suitably equipped for the
weather conditions, in particular, suitable tyres, and anti-freeze in
the screen washer". This effectively means winter tyres are compulsory.
The on the spot fine for non compliance is 20€. A driver who causes a
traffic obstruction in snow as a result of not having winter tyres faces
a 40€ fine.
