Rather than following the pointless discussion about studded tyres, I
think the travellers in the group will be more interested in the
consequences for car rentals.
The new law in Germany means that car rental drivers are responsible
for ensuring that they have winter tyres when driving in wintery
conditions- however, the car rental companies are NOT responsible!
Instead, they offer to rent winter tyres as an extra. Of course, you can
always turn the tyres down and risk the consequences- loss of insurance
cover, fines, etc.. the car rentals must be rubbing their hands with
glee at the extra income.
