We've had to give our passport numbers the last couple of times we
stayed in Austria (Vienna, Salzburg.)

As for Spain, you will have to give them too, though I noticed that the
hotel I stay in when in Barcelona doesn't ask for it whenever I return-
so they must keep it on file.
