Most of the bad areas are in banlieues (suburbs) far from anything of
tourist interest.

Within Paris itself there are very few places where you would need
anything more than the same basic caution you would use in any large
city (although pickpocketing is a problem, so wear a money belt).
During the day, there are no problem areas within the city limits. I
would be careful in the area around Gare du Nord late at night. Also,
don't enter the Bois de Bolougne at night.
