What I have noticed is that, just as USB devices, not all windows
systems recognise them. Windows XP should be fine, but it's
unpredictable IME. I use the shuffle both as a player and a USB storage
device.

Have you tried hitting your mac to get it to switch screens yet?
(VirtueDesktops etc.) Not sure if that's such a good idea in the long
run, and it certainly got my partner concerned last night when I kept on
hitting my laptop...
