Some US blacks seem to have an affinity for things French, e.g. cognac,
designer brands, French "spellings" (invariably and sometimes hilariously
mangled), etc...the hip - hop crowd has seized on this.
Lotsa black kids with names like "Chanel", ]"Mo'nique", etc. here in the
states...
In the ghet - toe you can find tons of French designer knock - offs, e.g.
handbags, sunglasses, etc....they like fake Gucci and Rolex stuff, too. The
more cheap and garish - looking the better.
They think it makes them look sophisticated, it actually makes them appear
low - rent...you could call them black "white trash".
