"2006 warmest year on record"
Fri 29/12/06 - 2006 has been the warmest year since records began here
in Belgium back in 1833. The VRT's weatherman Frank Deboosere says that
whatever happens between now and midnight on Sunday, this year will
enter the record books.
It was already more or less certain last week that the average
temperature in Belgium during 2006 would set a new all time record.
However, the VRT's weather expert has now confirmed that the previous
record set in 1989 has now been broken.
"Provisional figures reveal that the average temperature this year was
11.38 degrees. The previous record of 11.26 degrees was set in 1989",
Frank Deboosere told listeners to VRT radio.
A remarkable year
2006 was something of a remarkable year weather-wise. The year kicked
off with a cold winter, followed by a mild spring.

Frank Deboosere
"There were three consecutive months of bellow average temperatures,
something that has not happened for a long time."
The temperatures in the spring were about average, but the temperatures
in June and July were exceptionally warm.
"July was the warmest month ever with an average temperature of 23=B0c.
Records were also broken, during the autumn months of September,
October and November."
