I'd agree- I just randomly go into one now if I need a sandwich. The
only problem I sometimes have is the choice! Also, I agree with the
recommendation of Carlucci's, which as stated is usually busy. It's also
a bit more expensive, but worth it. Similarly, there are lots of small
places that do decent sandwiches, pannini etc.- usually you can tell
from the window if they have fresh produce etc. Despite much of the food
on offer, they are usually not run by italians (I seem to see more north
africans or middle-easterners running them) but are still good. I was in
one recently just round the corner from the British Museum but forget
the name- point being you can find them near touristy places.
