I've never flown backwards (which somebody says it's safer), and I guess
I'd find it somewhat strange (although on trains I do not care which
direction I face ... but trains travel flat, no take off and landing).
Nevertheless the "problem" in the new proposal is that they do not plan
to make ALL seats in the same direction, but to change alternate seat
direction. I saw a diagram for the 3 seats on the side of the aisle
FFFFFFFFFF
BBBBBBBBBB
FFFFFFFFFF
and similarly for 5 seats FBFBF at the centre of the aisle.
Now I find that EXTREMELY inconvenient. For one people travelling
together could no longer seat side by side. Second, I wander how easy it
would be to enter or exit the seat in the middle row reversed with
respect to the rest (specially in case of quick evacuation). And in
generally, although not claustrophobic, will feel uneasy if "prisoner"
in the middle row.
The newspaper article who introduced the new proposal, said something
like "after the proposal to fly passengers almost upright had been
junked". Let's hope this one is junked too.
