That one's easy. Continued freedom in a civilised society.

I see no valid reason for any ordinary citizen to own a gun.
I also see few reasons for police or other security staff in
a civilised society to carry them.

The few who have a need - farmers for vermin control,
target-shooters and similar, can be properly regulated.

The USA's deep-rooted fixation with a constitutional proviso
based on a historic struggle for independance is as relevant
to modern society as Afghanistan's tribal and ethnic
fixation. Neither will become a civilised nation until those
historical aberrations are consigned to the dustbin of
history.
