I use T-Mobile (GSM) in the US and buy unlocked multi-band phones for use
both in the US and overseas, either from eBay or TigerDirect.com. The two
most important issues are that the phone must have the right bands (900 &
1800 for Europe) and be unlocked. As for how to set up service I'd check
www.prepaidgsm.net. It's almost always cheaper to buy the SIM in-country.
