You might be right- but I've not used it. The last time I flew to AMS on
a budget was a few years ago, and that was easyjet- I think they used
regular gates then.
At Treviso, you're hearded into an area which has hardly any seats, but
this is not so much the airline or even airports fault, so much as you
have to go through passport control for the non-Schengen flights, and
they want you to go through asap so as not to cause delays. Barcelona
has a similar system, but it's a much bigger non-Schengen area with
several gates, restaurants etc.
Indeed- it can't be great for Treviso's shops that most of their flights
(the UK and Ireland ones account for most passengers to the airport)
have the passengers being rushed straight through the passport control.
