I think this is one of the better groups on usenet - despite
having some of the same problems all of un-moderated usenet
has.

One lateral solution is to think of good on-topic posts like
the stepping stones in Pompeii:

They were placed in the street, which was effectively often
part of the sewer system, so that they would stick up above
the shit and the mud for pedestrians to comfortably cross
the street. I concentrate on the stepping-stone posts here,
not the crap that surrounds them.
