The arrangement you describe is fairly standard for Budapest, and I
would not worry about it. They are not even seeking a booking deposit.
If they ask for more than about €20 for the airport transfer, say no
thank you. You can get a taxi for about €16 -- prices guaranteed by an
arrangement with the airport authority (it's not the same in Prague;
if you arrive there by air, you need to be more cautious about taxis).
Hungarians and Czechs do not consider themselves Eastern Europeans;
they live in Central Europe.
