I've stayed a few times at the Etap La Villette, which is close to the
Laumière metro stop (a few stops from Gare du Nord etc.) It's better
value when you're with someone (room price is the same) but it's 52 euro
which is good value I think- room includes ensuite and TV. It's very
much not a tourist part of Paris- not that interesting, but perfectly
pleasant.
BTW, if you get ther in the late afternoon, providing you're up to it,
I'd certainly consider at least a bit of a walk in the evening. This
hotel is not walking distance to the 'centre' of Paris, unless you're
adventurous. Though to be fair, it's not much further from the hotel to
Notre Dame, than it is from Notre Dame to the Eiffel Tower...
