A bus driver took pre-emptive action against quaint old types in
Alghero. When we first arrived at the airport, we exited, then asked at
the tourist information there how to get a bus to the centre. Very
helpful office, as they all were in our experience. The lady told me to
buy two tickets at the machine (or tobacconists) then walk out and take
a right for about 100m for the bus stop. Done. As people got on the bus,
an older Dutch couple asked people in Dutch if they needed a ticket. It
was an interesting experience, as I've never met anyone from NL who
doesn't speak or at least understand a little English! I asked if they
understood German, and the man did. I explained what I had been told to
them- but, it would mean them going back to the airport to buy tickets.
They decided to stay put, until the driver came on, and checked tickets.
He told them, and an elderly _Italian_ couple who also didn't have
tickets, that they had to go back and by them (for 70 cents each.) He
also said that he was leaving now, and they'd have to get the next bus.
An hour later!
I suppose they didn't find it funny- but I've got a wicked streak! :)
