Just their way of coping I would say - if I had a child kidnapped I'd be
distraught but I wouldn't cry my eyes out in public - "stiff upper lip" as
we say in Britain - it does still exist although not as much as it used to.

If they hadn't been "swanning around Europe" the Portuguese police, the
media, and indeed ourselves would have forgotten about Madeline months ago -
which if they had actually murdered her would have been exactly what they
would have wanted.
