But IIRC, you spend most of your spare time dancing! (That
uses a lot more calories than most people expend in their
daily lives.)

Which is why it is reaching epidemic proportions in the U.S.
especially among the young! However, spending their spare
time glued to a TV or computer or playing video games is not
much help, either. When we were kids we spent our after
school time outdoors playing - either some sort of active
games, or imaginative play in which our bicycles were much
in use as horses (for "cowboys") or airplanes (for "war") or
spaceships.
In my grandparents' day, gaining weight as one aged was
considered "natural" - food intake remained the same but
activity levels dropped. However, children were seldom fat,
not only because they were active, but because they had
neither the spending money nor the lack of supervison that
allowed them to buy and consume "junk" food between meals. |
