I have, and I would take the ferry every time.

You don't mention that the 45 minute flight entails an hour or so to the
airport through the most depressing scenery imaginable, an hour (at least) in
the departure lounge, security restrictions, searches, baggage restrictions
and so on. That's before you even take off. When you arrive you're always
miles away from the place you want to be, so you have yet more hassle with
taxis, buses or whatever. No thanks!

I'm rarely in a hurry to get to my destination when on holiday. I enjoy the
time I spend travelling (provided it's over land or sea) just as much. Anyway
ferry trips of 8 hours or more are usually overnight. Then one takes a cabin,
has a meal, bottle of wine, and it's a completely different experience.
