Subject: Overstaying in Italy Posted on: Sat, 13 Oct 2007 00:49:46 +0000 (UTC)

Hi all,

This post is probably just my paranoia getting the better of me, but:

I'm currently in Italy as a tourist on a Canadian passport. My 90 days
run out on November 14 but I'd rather stay longer. I'm going to Dubai
in early December and MXP-DXB sounds like a much nicer itinerary than
YUL-LHR-DXB.

I've checked the r.t.e archives and it seems the overstay question has
already been asked with respect to France but I understand that Italy
is different in that Italian hotels communicate guest information to
the local authorities and that could make me a much easier target than
I would be were I in another Schengen country.

Does anyone have any idea what the chances (or the consequences) are
of getting caught for overstaying in Italy?

Thanks!

Richard
