I didn't find it all that confusing. It is not a good idea to sit at a stop
light with the transmission in gear. If someone rams you from behind you
might for tearing off across the intersection. If you have a hydraulic
clutch and a line blows you could do the same. So you sit there in neutral
and when the amber light appears you put it in gear with the clutch engaged
and get ready to go.
